Die neue Akustik der Dominikanerkirche in Münster (vor Ort)

Abstract:
The Dominikanerkirche is an early 18th century church that was rebuilt after destruction in World War 2 and profaned in 2017. In 2018, Gerhard Richter's work " Zwei graue Doppelspiegel für ein Pendel (Two grey double mirrors for a pendulum)" was installed under the crossing dome. In the course of the complete renovation, the acoustics of the church also underwent a renovation to adapt it to its planned use as a lecture and event space. The aim was to create acoustics appropriate to the work of art and the museum use, which on the one hand should be suitable for performances ranging from speech to music and on the other hand should not lose the character of a church room. The extremely long reverberation time typical for rooms of this kind required considerable additional absorption in the context of the intended use, which had to be implemented as unobtrusively as possible and in harmony with the preservation order. The presentation will present the measures implemented for this purpose, some of which were elaborate, and show the results of the renovation.
