Abstract: Main measurands of applied acoustics like sound power level, sound reduction index or impact noise level are expressed in dB. Consequently, also the uncertainties are given in dB. Uncertainties for the sound power level under reproducibility conditions are 1,0 dB for the best grade of accuracy. A similar uncertainty is yielded for the building acoustic quantities. Since the equivalent absorption area is measured in m² and the absorption coefficient as a dimensionless number, their uncertainties can not readily be compared to these known uncertainties in dB. The contribution therefore provides a transformation of the uncertainties from ISO 12999-2 to the dB scale and compares the results to other measurands of applied acoustics. Furthermore, reverberation times in rooms and their uncertainties are predicted from measured sound absorption coefficients and their uncertainties. This finally enables a comparison between the uncertainty of measured sound absorption and other quantities in applied acoustics.
