Dual Helmholtz Resonator Systems for the use of Broadband absorbing Metamaterials (vor Ort)

Abstract:
Impedance tube measurements and a finite element simulation of two coupled helmholtz resonators in series are presented. The associated mass spring model predicts two eigenfrequencies because the coupled structures resonate in phase and out of phase, respectively. The simulation was able to confirm this as well as the eigenvalues found in the experiments. Finally, the results were compared to a more elaborated model derivated by Xu, Selamet and Kim (2010). Here it was found that the predicted frequencies are close to the measured ones. The results were used to create a broadband absorbing metamaterial consisting of 19 coupled cylindrical resonators of different sizes.
