Abstract:

The linearly and quadratically constrained least-squares (LQC-LS) decoder for rendering Ambisonics to binaural signals is a recent parametric approach by (Schörkhuber/Höldrich, AES 2019) which aims at preserving binaural cues also for low order Ambisonics. From a listening experiment by (Giller/Schörkhuber, DAGA 2019) it is known that for Ambisonics order N>10, this parametric rendering is very close to the reference using Neumann KU100 dummy head HRTF data, showing about equally good performance on reproduction of space, as well as on sound color and quality. Our contribution further investigates the performance of LQC-LS for usage of individual HRTF data.
